Stories from the Studio: 4th of July

H E L L O  F R I E N D S !

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July! My family and I are spending time near Charlottesville, Virginia, and learned about the annual Independence Day Celebration and Naturalization Ceremony at Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson, the third US President and author of the Declaration of Independence. We decided to join many others on a (very hot!) day at the mountaintop plantation to welcome 74 new citizens from 36 countries around the world as they took their Oath of Citizenship. I can only imagine the journeys that brought each of them to that long-awaited day.

On the shuttle back down the mountain to our car, we talked a young man who has worked at Monticello for the past three years. His eyes shone as he told us his story of the inspiration he felt when he visited as an architectural history student and left knowing that he wanted to work there. “It took me a year,” he said, “but I did it!” He said he learns something new every day and that as he shares his insights with visitors he experiences the magic of Monticello again and again.

In this season I am reflecting on the freedoms and opportunities I have been given along my own journey. I am grateful that the continued creation of Chicken Footstools and each one of you are a special part of it!

 Sincerely,

Sally & thecgf studio
